CBS & PSI Partner To Share Perinatal Mental Health Message

October 16, 2006 by Amy Spangler

The CBS television network has partnered with Postpartum Support International (PSI) to launch a new public service announcement (PSA) and online education campaign on postpartum depression (PPD).

The PSAs made their debut during an episode of “Cold Case” on Sunday, October 15. The episode included a storyline involving postpartum depression, and the PSAs feature “Cold Case” actors Kathryn Morris and Danny Pino.

To aid early detection, the PSAs highlight symptoms and remind viewers that no one is to blame and that PPD is a treatable medical condition. CBS Cares provides additional information including interviews with field experts discussing the symptoms of perinatal illness and treatment options.

CBS Cares also links to PSI where visitors can find a national helpline number along with lists of local resources. The PSAs are available to local media outlets in both English and Spanish.

PSI President Susan Dowd Stone appeared on the CBS Early Show to bolster the PPD prevention and awareness message conveyed by the PSA campaign. PSI plans to honor CBS and “Cold Case” with its Excellence in Media Outreach Award next month.
