Nursing Mothers Encouraged to Breastfeed on Capitol Hill
May 1, 2007 by Amy Spangler | no questions or comments
Currently 38 states and Puerto Rico have laws to protect the rights of women to breastfeed. The Breastfeeding Promotion Act would move beyond the patchwork of state laws and establish a national protection for breastfeeding mothers.
The Breastfeeding Promotion Act would:
1. Amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to protect breastfeeding by new mothers
2. Provide tax incentives for buisinesses that establish private, lactation areas in the workplace
3. Provide for a performance standard for breast pumps
4. Allow breastfeeding equipment to be tax deductible for families.
Breastfeeding mothers, babies, and advocates are invited to join Congresswoman Maloney at Cannon Terrace, New Jersey and Independence Avenue, SE at 11:00am on Thursday, May 10, 2007.
