The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has compiled a list of resources to better help parents and families keep their children safe. The AAP action is in response to recent recalls by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) of millions of toys made with materials containing lead.

1. Frequently asked questions regarding recent CPSC recalls of children’s toys due to excessive levels of lead.

2. List of toys recalled because of possible lead exposure.

3. Toy safety guidelines for parents and tips for avoiding injury and buying safe toys.

4. Toy safety guidelines for buying age appropriate toys and toys to avoid.

5. Lead screening guidelines for children.

6. AAP Policy Statement on prevention, detection, and management of lead exposure in children.

Given the recent recalls, parents and child care providers need to be alert to the risks for lead poisoning. For more information, parents are encouraged to contact their child’s health care provider.
