The Story of Stuff

What country has 5 percent of the world’s population, but consumes 30 percent of the world’s resources, and produces 30 percent of the world’s waste? If you guessed the United States, you’re right.

The Story of Stuff with Annie Leonard is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underbelly of our production and consumption patterns. It exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls upon all of us to create a more sustainable and just world.
Produced by Tides Foundation and Funders Workgroup for Sustainable Production and Consumption, The Story of Stuff traces the linear progression of stuff from extraction, production, distribution, consumption, and disposal. Leonard discusses how our consumption affects communities at home and abroad.

The Story of Stuff will teach you something; it will make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever!

Breastfeeding advocates won’t want to miss the segment on toxic chemicals in human milk, and Leonard’s assertion that despite the contamination, human milk is still the best choice for babies.
