The Stamp of Approval

May 29, 2008 by Amy Spangler | 2 questions or comments

Signe Franks, a Swedish stamp collector, recently shared a portion of her collection with the Dutch BFHI (Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative) foundation. The stamps, 15 to 18 in all, feature images of breastfeeding women and children from around the world.

Each poster measures 42 x 59.4 cm. Poster #1 features 18 stamps superimposed on a solid orange background. It contains the Dutch slogan, “Borstvoeding kent geen grenzen” which translated into English reads, “Breastfeeding across borders” or “Breastfeeding—no limits”. If you order 100 or more, you can customize the poster with your choice of slogan and language.

Poster #2 features 15 stamps on a blue background containing recommendations

(in English) from the World Health Organization and UNICEF on how infants and young children are best fed when breastfed, and how breastfeeding is best achieved through implementation of the BFHI. Poster #2 cannot be customized at this time.

  1. Hi,
Signe Franks (”Sigi”) here. I’m glad the stamps could be of use. And how delightful that you are featuring the posters. However, I’m not a stamp collector and not really well known (except in the “movement”, I guess). Have been involved in infant feeding issues since the late 1970’s, and started collecting stamps (and other items) depicting infant feeding and related themes.
Best, best wishes from Sweden and
    Sigi Franks

  2. Do you sell the stamp posters to people living in the United States of America? If so, what would be the cost, including shipping?
